ISAIAH BRITTON  IS HOME- To tell this story my way I have to back up, pretty far back.It was 1959 and I had just been hired to fill a teaching-coaching vacancy in South Williamsport. When that school term opened I started to get to know who all of the “players” in the school sports program. Remember - in those days those sports were football in the fall, basketball and wrestling in the winter and track and field come spring time. Some of the area schools had just added tennis.

Truby to Return to Cutters in 2010

The Williamsport Crosscutters will be led by a familiar name next season.  The Philadelphia Phillies announced today that Chris Truby will return to manage the team in 2010.  It marks the first time that a Williamsport manager has returned for a second season since Tom Prince managed the Cutters in 2005 & 2006.
 
Truby led the Cutters to a 2nd place finish in the NY-P Pinckney Division in 2009 with a record of 42-34.  He hit .323 in the New York-Penn League with Auburn in 1994 and spent parts of four seasons in the majors with Houston (2000-2001), Montreal (2002), Detroit (2002) and Tampa Bay (2003).  As a major league rookie in 2000 he hit .260 with 11 home runs and 59 RBI.

Penn College basketball teams head into break unbeaten in PSUAC
 
Heading into the semester break and the New Year, Pennsylvania College of Technology basketball teams are undefeated in Penn State University Athletic Conference play as both the men and women won at Penn State DuBois Friday.
 
FLASHBACK:
 
Men’s basketball – Joe Simon of Renovo drilled a 3-point shot with four seconds left against PS DuBois to lift the Wildcats to an 84-82 win. Penn College had to overcome both a 15-point second-half deficit and a 54-34 rebound disadvantage to gain the victory. Simon finished the contest with 23 points. Greg Solyak (Lititz) scored 27 points and Leroy Joiner (Williamsport) added 21 points and had 10 rebounds.

Cutters Announce 4th Annual Hot Stove Dinner 

Proceeds to benefit the Susquehanna Health Foundation
Williamsport - The Williamsport Crosscutters have announced their 4th Annual Hot Stove Dinner & Auction with the Phillies will be held on Tuesday, January 12 at the Genetti Hotel in Williamsport.  A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Susquehanna Health Foundation.
 
Special guests from the Phillies and the world of sports are expected to be announced throughout the month of December.  Fans are invited to check crosscutters.com for updates as they are announced.

Fall sports athletes honored at banquet

With the Thanksgiving Day holiday, it was a short week at Pennsylvania College of Technology but a festive one nonetheless as athletes who participated on seven fall sports teams celebrated with an awards banquet and the men’s basketball team, which had lost to Wilkes University by 41 points in tournament action just two days earlier, dug in hard at home Monday and fell to the Colonels by only 11.

Lycoming Women's hoops falls 67-56 to Delaware Valley

Becky LeidDOYLESTOWN, Pa. --- Senior guard Jessica Zerbee led the Lycoming College women’s basketball team with 16 points, but the Lady Warriors fell to Delaware Valley College 67-56 on Sunday, Nov. 29. Zerbee also recorded five rebounds.
 
The loss drops Lycoming to 1-4 on the season, while Delaware Valley improves to 3-2 on the year.

Lycoming Warriors Men's basketball overpowers Susquehanna 88-77

Jerald WilliamsWILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Lycoming College men’s basketball team won its fifth-straight game by double-digits after defeating Susquehanna University 88-77 on Sunday, Nov. 29. Four Warriors reached double-figures in scoring.
 
The win extends Lycoming’s record to 5-0, while the Crusaders slip to 2-2 on the year.

Dahlheimer named ECWC Wrestler of the Week

Chris DahlheimerITHACA, N.Y. --- In a release from the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference, Lycoming College senior 165-pounder Chris Dahlheimer has been named the Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 23.
 
Dahlheimer (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) went 4-1 for the week, picking up two first period wins by fall and two major decisions. His only loss of the week was a 4-2 decision to the nation’s No. 2 Luke Miller from Ohio Northern. Dahlheimer recorded a pin against Gettysburg in just 1:03 and at the 3:00 mark against Mount Union. He earned a 14-2 major decision against Division II opponent Ashland and an 11-0 major decision in the Warriors’ match against Ithaca.

Bradley named Commonwealth Conference's men's basketball Player of the Week

ANNVILLE, Pa. --- In a release from the Middle Atlantic Conferences, Lycoming College sophomore forward Mike Bradley has been named as the men’s basketball Commonwealth Player of the Week for Nov. 23.
 
Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep.) has also been named as the College’s Warrior of the Week after leading the squad to a 3-0 week.

Warriors win Tip-off Tournament 79-50 over Staten Island

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Lycoming College men’s basketball team defeated the College of Staten Island 79-50 en route to winning the 2009 Lycoming College Tip-off Tournament, the first time the Warriors have won the tournament since the 2003-04 season.
 
Lycoming remains unbeaten at 4-0 while the Dolphins slip to 1-1 on the year.
 
After Mike Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep.) scored the opening bucket with a layup, the Warriors never looked back, holding the lead through the entire game. Will Kelly (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) hit a pair of free-throws to increase the Lycoming lead to 4-0.
